Our history

From a Detroit parts counter to a national remanufacturer

Fraser Engines & Transmissions’ roots go back three generations. The family business began as an auto-parts store in the heart of Detroit — the Motor City — at a time when the Big Three built most of the cars on American roads and a good parts man knew every engine by its casting number. From there the family moved into a small garage in Fraser, Michigan, where in 1961 they began rebuilding engines for local drivers, shops and fleets.

Word spread the way it does in the car business: one engine at a time. Rebuilding became remanufacturing — a controlled, repeatable factory process instead of a bench repair — and the small garage became a plant. Today Fraser is a leading provider of remanufactured engines, transmissions and transfer cases for vehicles of all types, serving customers across the United States through 27 distribution locations — while still family-owned and still built in Michigan.
