The SUBARU 2.5 Liter Engine (1999-2010) was first introduced in the 1999 Subaru Legacy, and quickly became a staple in the Subaru lineup, being used in the Impreza, Forester, and Outback models. The engine featured an Active Valve Control System (AVCS) to vary the timing of the intake and exhaust valves, which improved both performance and fuel efficiency.
Over the years, Subaru made incremental updates to the engine, improving its power output and efficiency. The engine was also used in the Subaru WRX and STI performance models, where it was modified with turbochargers and intercoolers to produce up to 305 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque.
