The Ford 3.8L 1996-1998 engine was used in various Ford applications, including the Ford Windstar, Ford Mustang, Ford Thunderbird, Mercury Cougar, and Mercury Sable. The engine features a cast iron block and cylinder head, a single overhead camshaft, and sequential multi-port fuel injection, which delivers a fuel-efficient and reliable performance. The engine has a displacement of 232 cubic inches (3,797 cubic centimeters), with a cylinder bore and piston stroke of 3.81 in x 3.39 in (96.8 mm x 86.1 mm), an 8.4:1 compression ratio, and delivers 145 to 200 horsepower (108 to 149 kW) at 4,000 to 5,000 rpm, and 215 to 240 lb-ft (292 to 325 Nm) of torque at 2,800 to 3,750 rpm.
