Fraser Engines · 5.7L HEMI Gen II Engine Program
The 2009-and-newer “Eagle” 5.7L HEMI added Variable Valve Timing, revised Eagle cylinder heads, an active intake and more horsepower — powering the Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander, Durango, Charger, Challenger and 300. It is the best-selling HEMI ever built, but it is also the one most famous for MDS lifter failure, camshaft wear, the “HEMI tick,” exhaust manifold bolts and oiling-related valvetrain damage. Fraser’s remanufactured 5.7L Gen II corrects those weaknesses — and our MDS Delete builds remove the root cause entirely.
5.7L HEMI Gen II · 2009+Know the warning signs
These issues are exactly why a used or junkyard 5.7L HEMI is risky — without correcting the known weak points, the same failures come right back. Most customers start shopping after the famous “HEMI tick,” a wiped cam lobe, MDS lifter failure, a VVT / cam-phaser fault or timing noise.
Hydraulic roller lifter wear — the “HEMI tick” — leads to valvetrain noise, collapsed lifters and internal engine damage.
Cam lobes wear from improper oiling or a failed lifter roller, sending metal through the entire engine.
The Multi-Displacement System’s deactivating lifters are the Gen II’s #1 failure — the roller seizes, wipes the cam and sends metal through the engine.
Restricted oil flow accelerates valvetrain wear over time, especially with extended oil-change intervals.
Timing chain stretch and worn cam phasers cause rattle on start-up, timing codes and rough running.
A salvage HEMI carries the same lifter, cam and oiling weaknesses — and the same unknown mileage — that killed your original.
The Fraser Advantage
Our Fraser Advantage™ Premium Remanufactured 5.7L HEMI engines are built to exceed OEM standards. We don’t just rebuild engines — we correct the root causes of wear and upgrade critical systems for long-term durability.
Repair or replace?
Some HEMI issues can be repaired externally — but a failed lifter that has wiped the cam, metal in the oil, internal noise, low compression or severe overheating make a replacement engine the better long-term repair.
Know the difference
A used 5.7L HEMI may seem like the lower-cost option upfront, but it often comes with unknown mileage, hidden internal wear and the same factory lifter and oiling issues that caused the original engine to fail. Fraser Advantage™ engines are fully remanufactured, upgraded and tested — the smarter choice for long-term value and dependability.

5.7L HEMI Gen II fitment matters
Our Gen II 5.7L HEMI engines fit 2009-and-newer Ram, Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler applications. The 2009+ Eagle engine (VVT, Eagle heads) is not interchangeable with the 2003–2008 Gen I, and fitment also varies by VIN, model year, truck vs. car, eTorque and emissions package — so Fraser matches every order to your VIN before shipment. Selecting an MDS Delete build? Your tuner and, on 2015+, an unlocked ECM are required.

Answers before you order
Yes, for most owners. A used HEMI carries unknown mileage, hidden internal wear and the same factory lifter and oiling weaknesses that caused your failure. A Fraser remanufactured 5.7L HEMI is a zero-mile build with remanufactured heads, new pistons, rings, bearings, timing components, oil pump, gaskets and seals, VIN-verified fitment and a 3- or 5-year unlimited-mile warranty.
MDS lifter failure (the “HEMI tick”), camshaft lobe wear, VVT cam-phaser and timing chain wear, oiling system sensitivity and exhaust manifold bolt failure.
An MDS Delete build replaces the cylinder-deactivation lifters and camshaft with conventional non-MDS parts, removing the Gen II HEMI’s most common failure. Because the factory computer still expects MDS, a tuner (not included) is required to disable it, and on 2015-and-newer vehicles the ECM must be unlocked before programming.
Option 3 ($5,888) is the MDS Delete Fraser Advantage™ build; a VVT Delete package can be added for $399. Option 4 ($8,699) is the full performance build — MDS and VVT deleted, plus a high-performance camshaft and high-performance oil pump — for towing, reliability-focused and performance applications.
Yes. Fitment varies by VIN, model year, truck vs. car application, eTorque, emissions package and sensor configuration. Our team matches the correct engine to your full 17-character VIN before shipment.
Yes. Shipping and core pickup are free to any commercial address in the continental United States.
Yes. 1- to 5-year No-Fault protection ($99–$499) can be added at checkout. The Fraser Advantage™ option already includes 1 year of No-Fault coverage free.
The Standard reman ($3,999) is a zero-mile rebuild with a 3-year warranty. The Fraser Advantage™ build ($4,299) adds an upgraded block, updated heads, upgraded lifters and valvetrain components and every OEM and aftermarket TSB update, with a 5-year warranty plus 1 year of free No-Fault coverage. The MDS Delete builds ($5,888 / $8,699) go further and remove cylinder deactivation entirely.
The Fraser Advantage™ options receive upgraded lifters and valvetrain components, restored camshaft and cylinder head reliability and improved oiling integrity — directly addressing the platform’s best-known failure.
