Fraser Engines · 4.7L Chrysler / Jeep Engine Program
The second-generation 4.7L PowerTech V8 arrived for 2008 with revised cylinder heads, dual-spark-plug ignition, a higher compression ratio and flex-fuel capability — bumping output to roughly 300 hp in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Commander, Dodge Ram 1500, Dakota, Durango, Chrysler Aspen and Mitsubishi Raider. It is a stronger engine than the original, but it kept the platform’s oiling sensitivity, so sludge, valvetrain wear, timing chain stretch and overheating damage still send owners looking for a replacement. Fraser’s remanufactured 4.7L Gen II is engineered to eliminate those weaknesses.
4.7L Gen II · 2008–2013Know the warning signs
These issues are why a used or junkyard 4.7L Gen II so often fails again — without correcting the root causes, the same problems come right back. Most customers start shopping after sludge-related oil pressure loss, timing chain noise, a dropped valve seat, misfires or overheating.
The Gen II heads improved on the original, but overheating can still drop a valve seat — and once it lets go it can destroy the piston, head and cylinder in seconds.
A sensitive oiling system turns neglected oil changes into sludge that starves the valvetrain and bearings.
Restricted oil flow to the heads causes premature cam, lifter and rocker wear even on otherwise well-kept engines.
Chains, guides and tensioners stretch and fail over time, producing rattle, timing faults and rough running.
Heat-related stress warps cylinder heads, weakens valve seats and damages internal components.
16 spark plugs and coils mean more places for misfires to hide; persistent misfires after tune-ups often point to compression loss or head damage.
The Fraser Advantage
Our Fraser Advantage™ Premium Remanufactured 4.7L Gen II Chrysler engines are built to exceed OEM standards. We don’t just rebuild engines — we correct the root causes of failure and upgrade critical systems for long-term durability.
Repair or replace?
Some 4.7L issues can be repaired externally — but a dropped valve seat, sludge-related oil pressure loss, internal noise, low compression or severe overheating make a replacement engine the better long-term repair.
Know the difference
A used 4.7L Gen II may seem like the lower-cost option, but it comes with unknown wear, hidden sludge and the same factory design flaws that caused the failure in the first place. Fraser Advantage™ engines are fully remanufactured, upgraded and tested — the superior choice for long-term value and dependability.

4.7L Gen II fitment matters
This Gen II 4.7L fits 2008–2013 Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler and Mitsubishi applications. The 2008-and-newer engine is not interchangeable with the 1999–2007 Gen I (different heads, ignition and compression), and fitment also varies by VIN, emissions package and sensor configuration — so Fraser matches every order to your VIN before shipment.
