Torque Converter
Install Guide: 1
• Wear-prone rear stator bushing completely replaced to prevent failure of the E clutch.
• Each valve body is remanufactured and vacuum tested to verify hydraulic control.
• Valve body accumulator dampers are replaced to combat known deterioration of the OE component.
• Fully remanufactured torque converter is tested for leaks, lock-up, concentricity, and balance. Upgrades exceed OE requirements and eliminate the possibility of front seal leaks, premature bushing wear, and vibration.
• All wear-prone valves in the completely remanufactured valve body are restored to stringent specifications and vacuum tested to verify proper function.
• Build specifications are checked by four different specialized technicians during the remanufacturing process to verify the correct application.
• Every transmission is cold-and hot-tested using a proprietary dynamometer testing program that includes fully synthetic automatic transmission fluid and a filtration system.
Every Fraser Engines remanufactured transmission is built, tested, and validated to deliver dependable performance, long service life, and smooth operation under real-world driving conditions.
What’s Included & How We Ensure Quality
A remanufactured and improved torque converter is included with every transmission at no additional cost.
To prevent front seal leaks, vibration, and premature bushing wear, all torque converters are thoroughly tested for leak integrity, lock-up operation, concentricity, and balance.
Every fully remanufactured valve body receives complete system correction and recalibration, then is tested independently prior to installation.
All wear-prone valves are restored to stringent specifications and vacuum tested to verify proper sealing and operation.
Each remanufactured transmission undergoes hot, cold, load, and simulated road testing using our proprietary CARS® (Computer-Aided Road Simulation) dynamometer program, replicating real driving conditions before release.
Warranty You Can Trust
All Fraser Engines remanufactured transmissions are backed by an industry-leading, no-hassle nationwide warranty, providing real protection and peace of mind long after installation.

When in doubt, contact Fraser Engines for confirmation prior to use.
The 48RE transmission is a heavy-duty four-speed automatic transmission developed by Chrysler, designed as the evolution of the 47RE. Built specifically for high-output diesel applications, the 48RE is most commonly paired with the legendary 5.9L Cummins engine in Ram Trucks heavy-duty pickups.
Engineered for both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) configurations, the 48RE delivers enhanced torque capacity, improved electronic control, and superior durability—making it a top-tier choice for towing, hauling, and high-performance diesel builds.
The 48RE offers four forward gears, including overdrive, delivering strong low-end torque for towing while maintaining efficient highway RPMs.
Building on the 47RE platform, the 48RE features refined electronic governor pressure control via the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), resulting in smoother, more precise shift timing and improved drivability under load.
Designed to handle the higher output of later-model Cummins engines, the 48RE supports significantly greater torque loads than its predecessor—making it ideal for heavy towing and performance applications.
Compared to the 47RE, the 48RE includes stronger clutch packs, upgraded bands, improved valve body calibration, and reinforced internal components to handle increased stress.
The 48RE has built a strong reputation in real-world work environments, especially in trucks used for commercial hauling, towing, and off-road applications.
The 48RE is extremely popular in the diesel performance world, supporting upgrades such as billet input/output shafts, upgraded valve bodies, shift kits, and high-performance torque converters.
The 48RE transmission is primarily found in Dodge/Ram trucks equipped with diesel engines. Typical applications include:
Dodge Ram 2500 (2003–2007) – Paired with the 5.9L Cummins diesel
Dodge Ram 3500 (2003–2007) – Built for heavy-duty and commercial-grade workloads
High-output Cummins applications – Including performance and towing builds
The 48RE is built for drivers who demand maximum strength and reliability. Whether you’re towing heavy loads, operating a fleet vehicle, or pushing a performance diesel build, the 48RE provides:
Improved durability over the 47RE
Better electronic control and shift quality
Higher torque-handling capability
Proven reliability in extreme-duty conditions
Its balance of mechanical simplicity and electronic control makes it both powerful and serviceable—an ideal combination for long-term ownership.
At Fraser Engines, our remanufactured 48RE transmissions are engineered to exceed OEM standards and handle real-world diesel demands:
Backed by comprehensive coverage options for total peace of mind.
We address known failure points with:
Heavy-duty clutch packs
Reinforced bands
Upgraded valve bodies
Performance torque converters
Every unit undergoes:

Affordable payment solutions available to get your truck back on the road fast.
If your truck is experiencing any of the following, it may be time to replace your transmission:
Slipping Gears – RPM increases without corresponding acceleration
Delayed Engagement – Hesitation when shifting into drive or reverse
Overheating – Especially under towing conditions
Harsh or Erratic Shifting – Rough transitions between gears
Fluid Leaks – Visible transmission fluid under the vehicle
